Soldier Field stage setup with cranes

Chicago is a major hub of entertainment. The City of Broad Shoulders not only knows how to work hard, but the residents here know how to play too! With world-class theaters, sports arenas, museums, and other entertainment venues, there is no shortage of opportunities to find top music acts, sporting events, etc.

Stevenson Crane has proudly been helping to make many of these attractions possible throughout the Chicagoland area. Over this Memorial Day weekend, a crew of our Local #150 Crane Operators were at the Chicago Bears’ Soldier Field stadium. The mission: help build the stage and backdrop of one of this Spring’s most hyped concert series.

To setup the stage, some specialized, high-capacity all terrain cranes were required to lift sections of staging and equipment which weighed up to 20,000 lbs. Among the cranes used were:

  • Liebherr LTM 1060-3.1 60-Ton Crane
  • Liebherr LTM 1090-4.1 110-Ton Crane
  • Liebherr LTM 1100-2 120-Ton Crane

Despite rain, the star-studded series of concerts over the weekend was a hit, complete with a towering 70-foot-tall video screen backdrop which added to the delight of thousands of fans.
